Hi there! My name is Shara O’Connor and if we haven’t met yet, I specialize in working with children, adults and families who have been given a Tourette's diagnosis.
I equip my clients with effective tools and strategies to manage, change, overcome and transform their lives and current situation when it comes to Tic and Tourette's.
I am a Licensed Master Social Worker (LMSW) who has worked in many capacities within the Social Work field such as Foster Care, Mental Health Agencies and The Unified Court System, and I have earned my Associates Degree in Criminal Justice, Bachelors in Sociology and Masters Degree in Social Work. I hold numerous certifications obtained through continuing education and I’m constantly striving to enhance my professional development to better serve my clients and their families.
My style of therapy is to take a Holistic approach were I look at the whole person and take into account their physical, emotional, social and spiritual wellbeing.
After many years in the field, I had my first child and took a hiatus to be a stay at home mom. Fast forward a bit and my son Kevin is now 10 years old. Wow, time flies! Kevin is the inspiration and reason I found my life’s passion for working with individuals with Tourettes and their families.
At age 5, Kevin was diagnosed with a Tic, which then progressed into Tourettes. Throughout our journey and navigating this “new normal” for our family, I immersed myself into research, different doctors, therapies and anything I could find to help him. After countless days/months/years and a whole lot of emotions in between, I stumbled upon information on CBIT (Comprehensive Behavioral Intervention for Tics) and I was hooked! I wanted to learn all there was to know about this modality. So that is what I set out to do. I later became certified in CBIT through the Tourette's Association of America and the rest is history.
I live in New York with my husband 2 children and our furry best friend Dunkin

I love the Dr Seuss quote, "You're off to Great Places! Today is your day! Your Mountain is waiting, so...Get on your way!"
I love watching my kids play sports |
Kevin, my son, is the epitome of positivity and has never let his diagnosis stop him. He is the driving force behind my mission of teaching and helping others impacted by Tourettes Syndrome, and it lights me up to offer my expertise (both personally and professionally) as an extension of Kevin’s influence and inspiration.
